A cold day in Manchester - 29th Jan 2003

A trip into a freezing cold Manchester on the 29th of January, 2003. We started off in St Ann’s Square, explored the city and paid a visit to the ‘Old Orleans’ bar/restaurant in the Printworks. The only thing I remember from this day was the biting cold.

Corn Exchange, Exchange Square, Manchester

The former Corn Exchange, Exchange Square, Manchester. The building was renamed 'the Triangle' and its bohemian stores replaced with upmarket clothing and coffee shops. Another part of alternative Manchester gone. Sinclair's Oyster Bar, the black and white timber-framed building can be seen in the foreground, it was dismantled and rebuilt in its current position after Shambles Square was demolished following the 1996 terrorist bombing.

Shops in the Triangle/Corn Exchange, Manchester. I have memories of the old Corn Exchange, you could buy josticks, herbal highs, BB guns (Ashton Coine), books on the occult, tarot cards, obscure Japanese video games; it was an amazing place for alternative folk.

Old Orleans, the Printworks, Manchester. We spent many hours drinking purple rain cocktails in here, although I regret not trying the food, I really like Cajun and Creole food!
