Remembering the Classic World of Warcraft Stress Test of 8th August 2019
It’s exactly one year since I participated in the World of Warcraft Classic stress test on Thandol Span EU between the 8th and the 12th of August in 2019. During these 5 short days I experienced some of my happiest moments in World of Warcraft and met so many cool people along the way.
Here are some screenshots from that precious time one year ago!
When the servers went online I was anxious to get in the game and start questing! Unfortunately there was a queue of over 5000 people waiting to get in!
I quickly made a human rogue, I skipped customising his hair, my level 1 rogue ‘Hellwrath’ was a ginger!
I finally got in! The servers were absolutely thrashed by the sheer number of players logging in, I had to get questing and get a head start!
Getting my first quest ‘Kobold camp cleanup’ from Marshal McBride, or trying to at least.
It was an almost impossible task - trying to find mobs to kill and fighting the lag! I needed to get out of Northshire Valley ASAP!
I found a cloth robe to wear, I then headed to the vineyard to kill some Defias, my time in Northshire was nearly at an end.
After visiting the village of Goldshire, I made friends with a fellow rogue, ‘Redd’, we killed kobolds in the Fargodeep mine. We took candle!
I was already feeling tired from questing, so I danced on the roof of the Lion’s Pride Inn in Goldshire.
I paid a visit to Stormwind City. It was good to be home! I visited the bank, /saluted the boy king, Anduin Wrynn and checked in with my bosses at SI:7.
After heading back to Goldshire, I stumbled across Redd the rogue, who I first met in the mine. We formed a group to kill Hogger!
Hogger down and a ding - level 7! Thanks to Catur, Ihmispelko, Redd and Frosther for the help!
Me and Redd teamed up with Serina (a mage), Jaicejay (a rogue) and Marcmyssen a warrior. We killed Defias and did various quests around the Eastvale logging camp. I was by far the oldest person in the group as it turned out.
A very kind player called Merguez gave me some potions! I complimented him on his buffs and he gave me them for free! I love the WoW community sometimes.
Level 10! At last I can get my dual wield ability!
I returned to Stormwind where I found Lil Timmy! He is a rare NPC that walks around Stormwind and sells a white kitten pet. I don’t think I had enough gold to buy it on the stress test, I can’t remember. I definitely bought the kitten on the live Classic server!
I handed in the quest ‘Snatch and Grab’ to Mathias Shaw at SI:7 and got a much-needed upgrade - the Blade of Cunning!
I took the Deeprun Tram to the Dwarven city of Ironforge, I checked in on Lissyphus Finespindle like I always used to do on retail. I don’t know why, it’s one of the many obsessive compulsions I developed in WoW.
Sick of the hard-hitting mobs in the hell-hole that was Westfall, I arrived in the beautiful, but frozen zone of Dun Morogh. Here I did some lower-level quests and gained a level or two.
Eff this hell-hole of a zone, everything - literally everything will kill you in Westfall!
While questing in Westfall I encountered a German player who wanted to sell a leather agility belt, I bought it for 10 silver.
There was a rumour going round that the stress test was ending. Notice I had my /wave macro bound to my hotbar. I used it a lot in the stress test.
Everyone rushed to the park district of Stormwind, we were expecting GMs to spawn in bosses at this point, people in general chat were certain the stress test was about to end…
The shutdown didn’t happen, so I went to Goldshire and jumped up onto the roof of the Lion’s Pride Inn. There were lots of people there.
Party on the roof! More and more people were eager to join me on the roof, I had to instruct several people on how to do it - ‘RP walk, 45 degree angle, jump early!’.
Alienor makes it onto the roof of the inn for the first time in 13 years thanks to Hellwrath’s tips :p
I didn’t realise it was possible, but you can even climb onto the inn chimney! What followed was an eternity of jumping and failing trying to find the invisble sweet spot…
I finally made it on the chimney! Once I was up there I was not getting down for anything! Thank you to Horsea, Alienor, Gangstar, Varei, Lenoxx, Ceodan, Vrilya, Holtz, Zifer, Spark, Holysmoke and Foulblade for the amazing night on the roof, I’ll never forget you!
Some low level Horde turned up in Elwynn Forest! They were trying to kill NPCs. I teamed up with two other players, Zetar and Tracie and killed them.
5 gold, 55 silver and 55 copper! As the level cap was 15, you got a lot of currency for completing quests.
Good to see Old Blanchy alive in WoW! Look at that quest reward - 75 silver!
The last screenshot I took, noticed my friend Varei flying on a gryphon towards Redridge.
In Lakeshire, Redridge Mountains. Waving goodbye to the stress test for the final time.
I went to sleep that night and Thandol Span closed forever. I’ll always remember my time on the server and the great many people I met on my journey. I think my days in Azeroth are coming to an end, but I know I’ll always have the happy memories of my time in the World of Warcraft…
